ABAQUS Software – Download, Overview, and User Guide
Throughout its development history, ABAQUS has played an increasingly important role in the fields of materials engineering, construction, and structural analysis. It is capable of meeting complex requirements in both structural analysis and numerical simulation, delivering highly accurate and efficient results. Let’s explore this software in detail and learn how to use it effectively.
Introduction to ABAQUS
ABAQUS is one of the most powerful software suites for simulating engineering structures using the Finite Element Method (FEM). It was first developed in 1978 by Dr. David Hibbitt and Dr. Bengt Karlsson using the Python programming language. In 2005, Dassault Systèmes acquired the company for USD 413 million.
To date, ABAQUS has gone through 27 versions, with new releases typically launched at the end of each year. It consists of five core products:
1. ABAQUS/CAE (Complete Abaqus Environment)
A software application used for modeling and analyzing mechanical components and assemblies (pre-processing), as well as visualizing finite element analysis results. A subset called Abaqus/Viewer focuses only on post-processing and can be launched independently.
2. ABAQUS/Standard
A general-purpose finite element solver using an implicit (traditional) integration scheme.
3. ABAQUS/Explicit
A specialized finite element solver using an explicit integration scheme to solve highly nonlinear systems with complex contacts under transient loads.
4. ABAQUS/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
A software application providing advanced computational fluid dynamics capabilities, with extensive pre- and post-processing support in Abaqus/CAE.
5. ABAQUS/Electromagnetics
A computational electromagnetics application for solving advanced electromagnetic problems.
Advantages of ABAQUS
ABAQUS is a highly commercialized, user-friendly, and easy-to-use software. All analysis processes are carried out in three main stages: data preparation, analysis, and result processing.
During finite element analysis, ABAQUS can automatically select load increments and convergence accuracy. It also adjusts parameters appropriately, helping users avoid complicated manual tuning.
With its extensive element library, ABAQUS can easily model structures of various shapes and complexities. It supports accurate material modeling, including metals, reinforced concrete, polymers, and composite materials.
In addition to structural analysis, ABAQUS is widely applied in other fields such as heat transfer, electromechanics, and acoustic analysis.
ABAQUS Student Edition
Currently, ABAQUS Student Edition (SE) is provided free of charge for anyone who wants to start learning ABAQUS.
You can download it from:
